Resize PDF: Change Page Size to A4 or Letter

Put every page on A4, Letter, Legal, A3 or your own size. Content is scaled to fit and centered, and text stays sharp. Your file never leaves your device.

Resize PDF pages to the paper size you need

Resize PDF pages when a file doesn't match your paper. Letter and A4 have different shapes, so a US file printed on A4 gets cut edges or odd margins, and an A4 file does the same on Letter.

This tool changes the page size. Each page is scaled to fit its new sheet and centered, so nothing is lost. It also fixes files with uneven pages, such as scans and slides merged into one PDF.

Want a smaller file instead? That's compression, not resizing. Compress PDF can bring a file down to a target like 200 KB.

How to resize a PDF

1

Add your PDF

Drop a PDF into the box above, or click to choose one. Files up to 100 MB work.

2

Pick a page size

Choose A4, Letter, Legal, A3, A5 or Tabloid. More sizes, and your own width and height in mm or inches, are one click away.

3

Choose how pages fit

Auto orientation turns each sheet to match its page. Fit keeps the whole page, Fill covers the sheet, and Actual size keeps the original scale. Add a margin if you like.

4

Check every page

Each thumbnail shows its new sheet, with a label such as Letter → A4. Resize all pages, or select a few and resize only those.

5

Download your PDF

Click Export & Download. You get one PDF with every page at its new size.

Every common paper size

A4, Letter, Legal, A3, A5 and Tabloid, plus A0 to A2, A6, B4, B5, F4, Executive and Half Letter. Or type your own size in mm or inches.

Nothing cut off

Fit, the default, scales each page to fit its new sheet and centers it, so no edge is lost. Fill and Actual size are there when you need them.

Text stays sharp

Pages are scaled, not turned into images. Text stays sharp and selectable, and links and comments move with the page.

Every page one size

A merged file with pages of every size comes out even. Auto orientation gives portrait pages a portrait sheet and landscape pages a landscape one.

Works with the whole editor

Rotate, crop, reorder, delete or split pages in the same session. Resize only the pages you select, and undo any change.

Private and free

Your file never leaves your device. No sign-up, no watermark, and it works in any modern browser.

When to change a PDF's page size

Most resizing jobs come down to paper that doesn't match.

Letter to A4, or A4 to Letter

Send a US file to an office that prints on A4, or print an A4 form on US Letter paper.

Printing without cut-off edges

Match the PDF to the paper in the tray, so the printer doesn't crop or shrink it on its own.

Merged files with uneven pages

Scans, slides and receipts combined into one file often have pages of every size. Bring them all to one.

Portals that ask for A4 or Letter

Some application and filing sites check the page size of what you upload. Resize first, so the file is accepted.

A3 drawings on an office printer

A3 to A4 is an exact 70.7% scale, because the two sizes share a shape. Nothing is cut and no gaps appear.

Odd-sized scans

Bring pages from phone scanner apps and home scanners to A4 or Letter before you share them.

Why resize PDFs in your browser

There's nothing to install, and your document stays with you.

  • Private. Contracts, IDs and records are resized on your device and never uploaded.
  • Sharp. Text and drawings are scaled as they are, not turned into pictures.
  • Visible. You see each page on its new sheet before you download.
  • Selective. Resize every page, or only the ones you pick.
  • One place. Rotate, crop, reorder or split in the same session.
  • Free, with no sign-up and no watermark.

How PDF resizing works

Your PDF opens in your browser. When you pick a size, each page gets a new sheet. Its content is scaled to fit, centered and clipped to what you could see before, so hidden parts stay hidden.

The page isn't redrawn. The same text, drawings and images are placed on the new sheet, which is why text stays selectable. When you download, the PDF is saved straight to your device.

PDF page sizes in mm, inches and points

Common sizes you can pick, with their exact measurements. A PDF measures pages in points, and 72 points make one inch.

SizeMillimetersInchesPoints
A4210 × 2978.27 × 11.69595 × 842
Letter215.9 × 279.48.5 × 11612 × 792
Legal215.9 × 355.68.5 × 14612 × 1008
A3297 × 42011.69 × 16.54842 × 1191
A5148 × 2105.83 × 8.27420 × 595
Tabloid279.4 × 431.811 × 17792 × 1224
F4215 × 3308.46 × 12.99609 × 935
B5 (JIS)182 × 2577.17 × 10.12516 × 729

Letter to A4 scales content to 97.3%, leaving a band of about 13 mm at the top and bottom. A3 to A4 is exactly 70.7%, with no gaps, because the two sizes share a shape.

Tips for resizing a PDF

A few choices make the result look right.

  1. Tip 1:

Use Fit unless you know the page edges are empty. Fill covers the sheet but can trim the edges.

  2. Tip 2:

Leave orientation on Auto for mixed files. Each page gets the sheet that matches its shape.

  3. Tip 3:

Add a small margin if you'll print. Many printers can't print right to the edge.

  4. Tip 4:

Print at Actual size or 100%. A fit-to-page print setting can shrink a page that's already the right size.

  5. Tip 5:

Crop first if a scan has wide dark borders. The cropped area is what gets fitted onto the new sheet.

  6. Tip 6:

Need a smaller file for email or upload? Compress the PDF after resizing.

Resize PDF: frequently asked questions

How do I change the page size of a PDF?
Add your PDF above, pick a size such as A4 or Letter, and download. Each page is scaled to fit the new size and centered. You can also type your own width and height in mm or inches.
How do I resize a PDF to A4 without cutting anything off?
Pick A4 and leave Content on Fit, the default. Each page is scaled to fit inside the sheet, so nothing is cropped. A Letter page gets a thin band at the top and bottom, because the shapes differ.
What is the best way to resize a PDF to 8.5 x 11?
Pick Letter, which is 8.5 × 11 inches, and keep Fit on so the whole page shows. Leave orientation on Auto for mixed files. When you print, choose Actual size so the printer doesn't shrink it again.
How do I make all pages in a PDF the same size?
Pick one size, and every page is resized to it. Pages keep the size of the app or scanner that made them, so merged files often mix sizes. Auto orientation gives each page a sheet that matches its shape.
Does resizing a PDF reduce quality?
Not for text and drawings. Pages are scaled, not turned into images, so text stays sharp and selectable. Photos and scans scale with the page, and enlarging a small scan won't add detail.
How do I resize a PDF to 100 KB or 200 KB?
That's file size, not page size. Use Compress PDF to 100 KB or Compress PDF to 200 KB, or set any target size in Compress PDF. The links under the upload box take you there.
What is the difference between A4 and Letter?
A4 is 210 × 297 mm. Letter is 8.5 × 11 inches, or about 216 × 279 mm, so it's a little wider and shorter. Most of the world uses A4. The US, Canada and parts of Latin America use Letter.
How can I check a PDF's page size?
Add the PDF above. Each page shows its size under its thumbnail, such as Letter or A4. A page that isn't a standard size shows its measurements instead.
Can I resize only some pages?
Yes. Select the pages you want, choose Selected under Apply to, then pick a size. The other pages keep their size.
Are my files uploaded?
No. Resizing runs in your browser, and your PDF never leaves your device. That makes it safe for contracts, IDs and records.
