Legal Team
Stamp internal drafts and privileged documents with DRAFT, CONFIDENTIAL, or PRIVILEGED across every page before circulating for review.
Adding a watermark to a PDF seems straightforward until you need a diagonal CONFIDENTIAL stamp at 35% opacity on every even page, or a transparent PNG logo centered on a portfolio of product mockups. Generic tools give you a plain text stamp at full opacity and no further options. LuraPDF gives you the full control professionals expect: text or image watermark, opacity slider from 0 to 100%, rotation from any angle, six position presets including center diagonal, and per-page scope — all pages, a custom range, or odd/even pages. Legal teams, designers, photographers, and agencies use this workflow to mark ownership, draft status, and client attribution without compromising document quality.
Every watermark operation runs locally in your browser using pdf-lib. Your PDF is never transmitted to a server — the file is opened in memory, the watermark content stream is written into each chosen page, and the stamped document is assembled and delivered directly to your browser's download API. Text watermarks render as crisp vector content at any size; image watermarks embed your PNG or JPG with alpha channel preserved for transparent logo overlays. There is no round-trip upload, no account required, and no limit on file size or number of pages.
Watermarks communicate status, assert ownership, and enforce attribution across a wide range of professional document workflows.
Stamp internal drafts and privileged documents with DRAFT, CONFIDENTIAL, or PRIVILEGED across every page before circulating for review.
Overlay a transparent copyright logo or studio name watermark on portfolio PDFs sent to prospective clients before licensing is agreed.
Add a client-name watermark to mockup PDFs so review copies are clearly attributed and prevent unauthorized reproduction of pre-approval artwork.
Brand client reports and campaign proposals with the agency logo as a watermark, reinforcing identity throughout multi-page deliverable documents.
Watermark floor plans and property brochures with the agent's name or brokerage logo before sharing digitally with prospective buyers.
Apply a SAMPLE or PREVIEW watermark to lecture note PDFs distributed as previews, encouraging students to attend for the un-watermarked full version.
Full watermark control — free, private, and without leaving your browser — gives document workflows an important layer of protection.
LuraPDF uses the pdf-lib JavaScript library to open your PDF in the browser and write a new content stream onto each selected page. For text watermarks, pdf-lib draws the text using a standard embedded font at the specified size, color, rotation, and position, with the opacity applied as a graphics state parameter in the PDF content stream. For image watermarks, the PNG or JPG is embedded as a PDF XObject and drawn on the page at the chosen position and size with the alpha channel honored so transparent logos overlay correctly.
Because all of this processing occurs inside your browser's JavaScript engine, your PDF file is never transmitted to any server. The file is read into an ArrayBuffer using the browser's File API, processed entirely in memory by pdf-lib, and then the modified PDF bytes are handed to the browser's Blob download API. No network request carries your file data — you can confirm this in your browser's developer tools Network tab. The result is watermarked PDF output with no upload latency and no privacy exposure regardless of the document's sensitivity.

A few decisions about opacity, position, and format make the difference between an effective watermark and one that distracts from the content.
Use 30–50% opacity for diagonal text watermarks — visible enough to communicate status without obscuring the content beneath
Center-diagonal placement is the hardest to crop out and is the standard for anti-copying stamps
Use PNG with a transparent background for logo watermarks so the background does not become an opaque white rectangle over your content
Choose a color that contrasts with the page background — light gray on white rarely prints well; dark gray or a brand color works better
Test the watermark at print preview before finalizing — some low-opacity stamps vanish in black-and-white printing
Pair with Protect PDF to prevent recipients from simply removing the watermark in a PDF editor
